Mendeley utilities

In order to get the full benefit of Mendeley in your writing work, you need some utilities that facilitate your work. When you create an account with Mendeley as stated above, you can immediately access Mendeley's browser version (Mendeley Reference Manager web). It is also possible for you to install Mendeley's desktop app for yourself if the browser version features are not sufficient. There are two options to choose from desktop apps: Older Mendeley Desktop and newer Mendeley Reference Manager. Both are available from Mendeley's download site (Download Mendeley). However, it is good to keep in mind that these installations are done by Centria IT support for school machines when requested.

In browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge), it is possible to install the browser add-in, which allows you to facilitate the transfer of references from certain databases to your Mendeley library. Web Importer is downloadable like wise from Mendeley's download site (Download Mendeley).

There is a dedicated utility also for word processing, which is discussed in more detail in the section on the use of "Mendeley in a word processor".
