APC (article processing charge) An author fee / processing fee / publication fee charged to an author (organisation) when publishing an article in an open access or hybrid journal.
Embargo A period of time, defined by the publisher, during which the self-archiving of a publication is not allowed. The calculation of the embargo period varies from publisher to publisher. In most cases, it is calculated from the time the first version of the article appears on the journal page or online (e.g. First published online). There is not always an embargo period and it may be different for different publishers and/or different sectors.
General conditions Other boundary conditions imposed by the publisher on the article. For example, specifying the places where self-archiving can take place and reminding the reader to refer to the original source.
Final published version (or publisher PDF) Refers to the format in which the work is distributed electronically by the publisher. The final version with folding.

Institutional repository (or Institutional server) An open repository of publications of a university or research institute, e.g. Theseus.
Paid open access A journal/publisher offering the possibility to pay for open access to an article (hybrid journal).
Pre-print Refers to the format in which the work was first submitted for peer review. This means that the version has not undergone peer review.
Post-print (final draft or author-accepted manuscript) Refers to the final, post-peer-reviewed form of the work, lacking the added value provided by the publisher, such as layout (final layout and logos).
