1 Phases of the thesis and courses

Phases of thesis in Wihi

In Wihi, the thesis project progresses in phases and there is a workspace for each phase. You progress from one phase to another. After one phase has been completed, the workspace for the next phase opens.

Topic proposal

Start your thesis project with a topic proposal. If the thesis is a group project, one of the students prepares the topic proposal and invites other members to join the project. Each of the students must confirm his/her participation. After this, the proposal will be sent to the degree programme coordinator for approval. The coordinator may ask you to clarify the proposal before approving it.

Schedule and tasks

After the topic proposal has been approved, you can start planning the preliminary schedule for each phase of the thesis project. You can also save tasks of your thesis for your own use. You can set more tasks later or edit them as your work progresses.

Thesis 1/3

Proceed with your work in accordance with the feedback given by the advisor. Communicate with your advisor and, if necessary, return the thesis in parts. By successfully completing this phase, you are graded ‘pass’ for the first course ‘Thesis, planning’ (5 credits in Bachelor’s degree programmes and 10 credits in Master’s degree programmes), and the grade is entered in Peppi.

Thesis 2/3

Proceed with your work in accordance with the feedback given by the advisor. Communicate with your advisor and, if necessary, return the thesis in parts. This phase also includes text guidance on the language of your thesis. The advisor will provide you with more information on this.

By successfully completing this phase, you will receive grade ‘pass’ for the second course ‘Thesis, writing’ (5 credits in Bachelor’s degree programmes and 10 credits in Master’s degree programmes), and the grade is entered in Peppi.

Thesis 3/3

In this phase, you complete your thesis using the feedback provided by the advisor as a basis. Prepare an abstract for your work and send it for review in accordance with the instructions provided by the advisor. Send your work for language check in accordance with the instructions provided by the advisor.

Please note: Send your thesis for language check no later than four weeks before the evaluation date you have proposed.

Set your thesis to plagiarism check.

Take the maturity test in accordance with the instructions provided by the advisor.

Evaluating the thesis

You must publish your thesis in the open or restricted Theseus collection. Save a Theseus link (a permanent URN address) for your thesis.

After your thesis has been evaluated, you can view the evaluation statement in Wihi.

By successfully completing the last phase, you receive a numerical grade for the final course ‘Thesis, reporting and finalisation’ (5 credits in Bachelor’s degree programmes and 10 credits in Master’s degree programmes), and the grade is entered in Peppi. The grades ‘pass’ given for the first two courses will also be changed to numerical grades. The name of your thesis will also be entered in Peppi.
